Nithin Kamath
Co-founder & CEO, Zerodha
About
Founded Zerodha in 2010 with his brother Nikhil, introducing flat-fee discount broking to India and building it without external funding. Also set up the Rainmatter fund, which backs Indian startups.
He began trading equities in his teens, worked a night shift at a call centre to fund his positions, and later managed money for wealthy clients — which is where he saw how much percentage-based brokerage cost active traders. He launched Zerodha with his brother Nikhil in 2010 on a flat-fee model, refused external funding, and built it into India's largest retail broker by active clients. He also runs Rainmatter, which invests in fintech and climate startups, and has signed the Giving Pledge.
