Nagpur, India - In a bold declaration at the 'Meet Rizta' event, Ather Energy cofounder Swapnil Jain asserted that Indian electric two-wheelers surpass their global counterparts in both design and technology. Addressing an audience of community members and electric vehicle enthusiasts, including Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Jain emphasized India's unique opportunity to become a global technology exporter.
During the event, Ather unveiled its latest family scooter, Rizta, alongside the innovative Halo helmet. Jain highlighted the significant strides made by Indian manufacturers and the supportive role of the government, despite recent reductions in subsidies. "Even with decreased subsidies, we are thriving thanks to the 'Made in India' initiative," Jain stated.
Jain elaborated on the potential for India to outpace foreign countries in electric vehicle (EV) technology and design for the first time. "We have a unique opportunity to become exporters of technology, not just manufacturers. The growth of the electric two-wheeler industry will also boost other sectors such as the semiconductor, software, cell manufacturing, and energy industries," he said.
Jain emphasized the broader impact of the EV industry, positioning it as a catalyst for technological advancement across various sectors. "The EV industry should not be seen just as an automobile industry but as the industry that can pull all the new technology in India, which will flourish various other industries," he added.
Ather Energy has experienced remarkable growth, with a 30% increase in EV sales last year, selling approximately 115,000 units. Jain expressed optimism about future sales, particularly with the positive reception of the Ather Rizta. The company's production capacity stands at 400,000 units, positioning it well for continued expansion.
Regarding future plans, Jain revealed Ather's intention to penetrate the South Asian market, with sales already commencing in Nepal. This strategic move aims to further solidify Ather's position as a leader in the global electric two-wheeler market.
With India's burgeoning electric two-wheeler industry, Ather Energy is poised to lead the charge, demonstrating the nation's potential to set global standards in design, technology, and innovation.
