Groww opens 10,000+ US stocks and ETFs to select users via GIFT City

Groww has started letting a limited set of customers buy and sell US-listed stocks and ETFs inside its app, using its GIFT City licence and Alpaca Securities. The move takes the listed brokerage into international investing as it works to widen revenue beyond futures and options trading.

Groww, the investment platform run by Billionbrains Garage Ventures, has opened US stock investing to a select group of customers, The Hindu BusinessLine reported on 29 September 2026, citing people aware of the development. Users in the beta can trade more than 10,000 US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds from within the Groww app.

The service runs through the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) licence for global investing that Groww obtained at GIFT City in July, with US brokerage infrastructure provider Alpaca Securities as its partner. Groww did not respond to BusinessLine's questions about the launch.

What users get

Customers with access can buy and sell US securities directly in the app, including names such as Alphabet (Google), Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon and Meta. The feature also supports fractional investing, so an investor can put a small amount into a slice of a share rather than paying for a whole one, which matters for US companies whose single-share price runs high.

Access is limited for now. According to IBTimes India, Groww's help page describes US Stocks as being in beta and available to a limited set of customers while access is widened. Reports citing Moneycontrol expect the feature to reach all users over the next few weeks to a month.

Investments made this way still fall under the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme, which lets resident individuals send up to $250,000 abroad each financial year, Whalesbook noted. Tax collected at source on foreign remittances and capital gains rules on overseas shares also apply.

Why it matters for Groww

The launch is part of a broader push beyond Groww's core broking and mutual fund businesses. Over the past year the platform has added commodities trading, broadened its mutual fund offerings, expanded its margin trading facility and been scaling its wealth management arm, W. Futures and options accounted for 52% of its revenue in the June quarter, Free Press Journal reported, and new products help reduce that dependence.

Interest in overseas markets among Indian investors has risen with AI-driven rallies in the US and elsewhere, a weaker rupee and an active US listings pipeline. Indian exchanges also offer few ways to invest in sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicles and space technology.

Groww is not alone. Zerodha, Angel One and Upstox have also received GIFT City approvals to offer US stocks. BusinessLine reported that Upstox is the only one of the four to have launched so far, earlier in September. NewsBytes noted that the segment has been led by platforms such as INDmoney, Smallcase and Vested Finance.
