Chennai-based formulations company Linux Laboratories has raised $70 million from ChrysCapital and Tata Capital Healthcare Fund III in a deal mixing new and secondary capital. ChrysCapital takes a significant minority stake, Tata Capital's second fund exits, and the company gains funds for acquisitions, new therapies and manufacturing.
Linux Laboratories, a Chennai-based maker of branded domestic formulations, said on 30 September 2026 that it has raised $70 million from ChrysCapital and Tata Capital Healthcare Fund III (TCHF III). ChrysCapital picks up a significant minority stake in the company.
The deal is not all fresh money. Mint reported that it combines primary capital with a secondary sale of shares held by Tata Capital Healthcare Fund II (TCHF II), which exits at roughly four times its investment. Tata Capital stays invested through its third fund. Mint had reported in January that Linux had appointed Avendus to raise up to $70 million, and Avendus Capital acted as the company's exclusive financial adviser on the transaction.
What the money is for
Linux plans to use the proceeds to deepen its position in its core specialities, move into adjacent therapy areas, keep acquiring brands, and invest further in manufacturing and research and development. The company also said it sees opportunities in international markets and is working on new partnerships to widen its global presence.
Kshitij Sheth, managing director at ChrysCapital Advisors, said the deal fits the firm's approach of backing fast-growing domestic formulations companies focused on chronic therapies, and pointed to Linux's speciality franchise, execution and record in mergers and acquisitions.
Visalakshi Chandramouli, managing partner of Tata Capital Healthcare Fund, said reinvesting through the third fund reflects "our continued conviction in the founders, the management team, and Linux's long-term growth potential."
Mint noted that India's branded formulations market has been drawing investor interest as chronic and sub-chronic illness becomes more common and as speciality, prescriber-led portfolios take a larger share.
About Linux Laboratories
P. Hariharan, K. Keerthivasan and S. Ananda Kumar founded Linux Laboratories in 2007. The company is headquartered in Chennai and sells more than 125 brands across about 400 stock-keeping units.
Its strongest position is in central nervous system therapies, covering epilepsy, neuropathic pain, depression and autism. It has since added dermatology, cardio-diabetic and nutraceutical products. More than 1,000 medical representatives, organised into seven divisions, reach over 60,000 doctors across India, with an emphasis on specialists.
Growth has come from both building its own brands and buying others. Linux has integrated the Biomedica and Indiabulls Pharmaceuticals portfolios and acquired brands from Cipla and Dr Reddy's Laboratories. It runs its own WHO-GMP certified manufacturing plant, which supplies the branded business and also supports a growing contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) operation and exports to several countries.
Scoopearth quoted co-founder and executive director S Ananda Kumar as saying the company was built on the belief that a science-led portfolio offering affordable, accessible quality could compete with India's largest drugmakers.
