About
Akshay Bector is chairman and managing director of Cremica Food Industries, the condiments and packaged-foods business of Punjab's Bector family. He is a son of Rajni Bector, who turned a home ice-cream venture into the Cremica group, and the late Dharamvir Bector; his brothers are Ajay and Anoop Bector. After an engineering degree from Manipal, he began working in 1987 and in 1989 set up an automated bread plant for the family business. He went on to add biscuits, joint ventures with Quaker Oats of the US and EBI Foods of the UK for sauces and batter mixes, and a supply arrangement that made the group a leading McDonald's supplier in India by 1991. Under a 2013 family settlement the biscuit and bakery business, now the listed Mrs Bectors Food Specialities run by Anoop Bector, was separated from the condiments business he leads. Cremica sells ketchup, mayonnaise, sandwich spreads, dressings and sauces to retail shoppers and supplies chains such as McDonald's and Subway. In September 2026 the company bought back a 35% stake held by Kroll, leaving the family with about 90%, and Bector said it was preparing for a stock-market listing.
Cremica credits Bector with launching what it calls India's first vegetarian mayonnaise and with mayonnaise in Indian flavours such as tandoori and mint, as well as Opera kettle-style potato crisps. He oversaw a 55-acre food park at Una in Himachal Pradesh built around a tomato-processing plant. Outside the company he has chaired the Confederation of Indian Industry's Punjab chapter and was the founding chairman of the Young Presidents' Organization's Punjab chapter. In 2016 India Agri Business Fund II took a minority stake in Cremica for $15 million; that fund's management later passed to Kroll, whose stake the family bought back in 2026. Bector told Mint the company expected sales of about ₹450 crore and Ebitda of ₹65-70 crore in the current fiscal year, and that a listing could value it at ₹1,500-2,000 crore.
