Kerala-based broker Geojit Financial Services has elevated executive director Jones George to managing director, while founder C J George moves from chairman and MD to executive chairman, effective 1 October 2026. The change completes a succession plan the board approved in July.
Geojit Financial Services announced on 30 September 2026 that founder C J George will become executive chairman and Jones George will take over as managing director, effective 1 October 2026. C J George has so far held the combined role of chairman and managing director.
The board approved the change at its meeting on 22 July 2026 on the recommendation of its nomination and remuneration committee, as part of a long-term succession plan, the company said.
Who is Jones George
Jones George moves up from executive director. He joined Geojit in 2013 as a manager and digital media specialist, became chief digital officer in 2018 and was named executive director in 2021. In his current role he oversees strategic initiatives, the company's digital transformation and its overseas non-resident Indian (NRI) business and operations.
In his statement, Jones George said the company would aim to become more agile and technology-led, investing in digital capabilities while keeping its physical presence across the country to strengthen client relationships.
The founder's new role
C J George founded Geojit in 1987 together with Ranajit Kanjilal. Over close to four decades the firm built a large presence in Indian capital markets and lays claim to several industry firsts, including internet and mobile trading and the launch of commodity futures in bullion, pepper and cardamom.
Explaining the transition, C J George said Geojit "was built with a long-term view, with a strong emphasis on people and relationships." He added that as executive chairman he would keep working closely with the leadership team as the company enters its next phase.
Why it matters
The arrangement keeps the founder in an executive role on the board while handing the managing director's post to an executive who has spent more than a decade inside the company, much of it running its digital business.
BusinessLine describes Geojit as one of India's prominent retail broking and investment services firms. The new managing director's stated priorities, technology-led growth alongside a nationwide branch presence, match the areas he has managed since 2018.
